What's Truth?

A popular quote: "A lie, spoken too long, becomes truth"

A parable...

The ruling body of a small country met to consider how they could guide their people to the ultimate realization of all that is good.

They considered all of the "gifts of the Spirit" as described in the Bible and voted them, one by one, to be standards for their country. Then they came to the "gift" of the Spirit known as Truth.

"What is truth?" the vice regent asked. "Does anyone here know what truth is?"

A few hands went up and comments filtered to the podium. "Truth is a perception," one ruler said. "It changes from person to person and from day to day. No one knows what truth is in every instance."

A murmur of approval rumbled through the assembly.

Then another ruler stood up to protest. "Truth is absolute," he said. "If it is truth, there is no variation, no changing. Truth is changeless."

Again, a murmur of approval was heard.

A third ruler took the microphone. "Truth," he said, "is a person, a divine entity that knows all things. We learn truth by becoming acquainted with the person who is the embodiment of all truth."

There was more discussion, more ideas, but when the ruling body was ready to vote, it was unanimous. The ruling body voted to choose Truth as the Supreme Ruler of the small country and selected a search committee to set out to find this Being.

They never did, and without a Supreme Ruler who could lead them into all truth, the small country slowly dissolved into the ocean of disbelief.
